Nean Belgian, b. 1991

Biography

Fabien Hupin, known as Nean, lives and works in Brussels.

With a touch of nihilism blended with a hint of anarchism during his early years, Nean first explored graffiti before creating the massive murals for which he is widely known. His work has always been rooted in public spaces, but the need to bring spray cans and brushes—along with charcoal and pencils—into the studio soon became evident. It was drawing, with its intimate relationship to the surface, that initially took precedence, focusing on portraiture and extensive research on light.

This dimension remains absolutely central to Nean's practice, heavily inspired by cinema. With compositions crafted like cinematic framing—his characters are often portrayed full-length within magnificent settings—the artist depicts enigmatic scenes with a hypnotic quality. A regular participant in major international festivals, Nean displays unparalleled talent. His paintings evoke a contemplative experience in the viewer, whether standing before one of his walls or lucky enough to admire one of his rare studio works, as his production remains very limited.

With a surrealist tendency, Nean’s works immerse us in a world apart, where time feels suspended. The Chenus Longhi Gallery is thrilled to announce its new collaboration with Nean, who will be showcased for the first time at the District 13 Art Fair at Hôtel Drouot in Paris.
