Augustine Kofie: Carlifornia Soul

25 May - 6 June 2013
Overview

"California Sun" is the very first solo exhibition of the American artist Augustine Kofie in France and is part of the Graffuturism exhibition series initiated by the Chenus Longhi gallery. Very active on the Los Angeles graffiti scene, Augustine Kofie immediately stood out from his peers with his unusual artistic approach. Mainly self-taught, he quickly abandoned writing graffiti to develop an abstract vocabulary inspired by the sixties in its forms and its chromatic range. Fascinated by architecture, Augustine Kofie demonstrates a great mastery of perspective by almost always giving primacy to the vanishing line, in a perfect balance between curved and circular forms. French collectors discovered the Californian artist's work on canvas and wood with great enthusiasm; the exhibition was sold out even before its opening.
