Altered Reality : [Group Show]

8 September - 13 October 2018
Overview

When Ingres added a couple of vertebras to his odalisques to make their body more slender, he was modifying and enhancing reality for aesthetic purposes. While the PreRaphaelites and the Symbolists drew inspiration from mythology and literature to depict a universe beyond reality, Surrealists were playing with the psyche (automatism, dream and unconsciousness).
This exhibition focuses on the creative process understood as a projection of a sublimated unconsciousness or fantasized reality through artists who explore the wide spectrum of contemporary figuration. Gifted with an exceptional mastery of drawing and painting, with hints of surrealism, their inspiration is rooted in both classical painting and illustration.
They all depict an imaginary world that revolves around men. The exhibition is about the relationship between men and nature seen through the prism of a dreamlike reality on the verge of surrealism. It is also about the relationship between men and the city, and communication and information technologies.

The exhibition gathers the work of eight artists: Robert Proch, Miss Van, Doze Green and Éric Lacan —four artists represented by the gallery— along with Andrew Hem, Bezt, Will Barras and Dulk for the first time exhibited in France.
