Sainer Polish, b. 1988

Biography

With a pictorial approach that combines a form of realism with a technique inspired by both illustration and classical painting, Sainer confronts tradition with modernity.

Sainer started to practice graffiti in the early 2000s, influenced by the hip-hop culture that was making its way into Eastern Europe. He met his friend and colleague Bezt at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódz, with whom he formed the duo Etam Cru. It is then in muralism that he finds material to develop his imagination and forge his own identity from 2009.

Graduating in the Beaux-Arts of Lodz in 2012, they both multiply their mural interventions throughout the world and acquire an international reputation. After many years of emulation with Bezt, Sainer increasingly focused on his own work and in 2013 put on his first solo exhibition. With a pictorial approach that combines a form of realism with a technique inspired by both illustration and classical painting, he confronts tradition with modernity. He allows the viewer to plunge into his own imagination by proposing timeless paintings, with characters staged in a phantasmagorical way. This transition from the real to the surreal is usually made under the light of the deep chiaroscuro that Sainer paints in the course of his creative thinking.

Very demanding, he produces little and is rare in galleries. He is one of the most coveted artists in the world. The Chenus Longhi Gallery put on his second solo exhibition in 2017 as his work shifted towards striking landscape painting.
