Overview
Strata, from the Latin for layer or stratum, evokes both geological superposition and the accumulation of sediments, but also the invisible strata that shape our world. With this exhibition, CHENUS LONGHI gallery dedicates its first solo show to Teurk (b. 1976), an artist from the graffiti generation and a member of the VAO collective (L’Atlas, Tanc, Sunset, L’Outsider, Nascio, etc.), whose practice has gradually shifted from the urban environment toward monumental and experimental visual explorations.
The series of works presented here is created from steel plates engraved with an angle grinder. By removing matter rather than adding it, the artist draws complex grooves and undulating patterns that capture light and generate hypnotic lenticular effects. These surfaces vibrate like echoes of nature, conjuring aquatic expanses, the cosmos, or elementary particles.
A self-taught artist fueled by the raw energy of graffiti, Teurk develops a body of work at the crossroads of poetry and science. In Strata, he explores the “eternal invisible” and reminds us that humanity is but dust within the immensity of the universe. These works, marked by a singular pictorial sensuality, invite viewers into an immersive contemplation where light both inscribes and erases.
