Rouge Hartley: The Frost is All Over [institutional show]

After graduating from the Beaux-Arts school from Bordeaux in 2014 with a body of work in video, performance and installation, Rouge Hartley developed an obsession with drawing and painting. Galerie Chenus Longhi is delighted to represent her work since 2020, and to see this 30-something artist become part of the contemporary figurative painting movement. Her work, which until now has taken an academic approach to the medium, shows an increasingly free and dense facture, while her subjects celebrate the wider community of the living and dramatize the wonderful and terrible tensions of our times. Rouge Hartley's works lead us to a contemplative and hypnotic reflection, on the threshold between a composed calm and a sensitive intensity close at hand. Once again, nature figures prominently in this new exhibition by Rouge Hartley. "The Frost is All Over" makes the thaw an ambivalent figure, at once a cyclical force of spring and an ecological catastrophe. In water as a crucial element, she draws reveries, continuities, poems and prayers.
