Nychos: Off The Wall
With the Austrian Nychos, a famous muralist and icon of European street culture, the Chenus Longhi gallery opens its doors to unbridled creativity: a bestiary of surgical drawings unfolding across some twenty works on canvas and paper.
Nychos is undoubtedly one of the most active artists in the street art world. Originally from a graffiti background, he has been painting in his city of Vienna and throughout the world for fifteen years now. In 2013, he reached a major turning point in his career on an American tour that took him to paint and exhibit at galleries in Detroit, New York and San Francisco. In recent years, Nychos has distinguished himself by painting walls and canvases with images of animals in motion whose bodies are dissected, skinned and cut into anatomical sections. An off-kilter heavy metal aesthetic prevails throughout. His surgically drawn mural works can today be seen from Miami to Istanbul through Hawaii, Sao Paulo, Singapore, etc.
Having founded several collectives in Vienna (The Lords, The Weird crew), Nychos has united a whole artistic scene around him, in particular through the gallery he opened in 2012, the Rabbit Eye Movement Artspace. Today he is considered as a major artist on the international scene, appreciated by lovers of illustration and graphics as well as art-lovers. His work is supported by several galleries in the United States, Asia and Europe.
For the first time ever at a French gallery, Chenus Longhi presents the work of this quirky, slightly weird artist. His fans are sure to be thrilled by the Off the Wall exhibition, since many of the works revisit the murals that the artist has painted across the world. They include the spider in Hamburg (Dissection of a Black Widow), the shark in Hawaii (Dissection of a Megalodon) and the orca in New York (Dissection of an Orca). A highly relevant dialogue between indoors and outdoors.
