Logan Hicks: Light Seekers and Night Crawlers

3 - 24 February 2018
Overview

"As I am walking around at night, taking photos, I watch how people walk. I wonder why someone chooses to walk in the shadows, close to the buildings, instead of bathing in the light. I wonder why others are so scared of the shadows. It's really the same battles people face with their consciousness I suppose." — Logan Hicks

The Light Seekers and Night Crawlers exhibition is another occasion for Logan Hicks to share his unique vision of the city. From Paris to London via Turin and Marrakesh, he brings us to different places like a pictorial immersion in his travelling sketchbook. The Galerie Chenus Longhi has invited the American artist to put up this show following a long residency he did in Paris over the summer 2017. Samantha Longhi, co-founder of the gallery alongside Nicolas Chenus, and international stencil specialist, had exhibited his work several times at the end of the 2000s. Light Seekers and Night Crawlers features about 20 artworks on canvas and wood providing the opportunity to discover Logan Hicks's wide scale of talents along with his various inspirations. Among them are gothic art and Art Nouveau, with nocturnal landscapes and scenes depicted in interiors and architectures that recall the artistic movement of the last century. Made after his own photographs, Logan Hicks's stencil works invite spectators to ponder over the stunning perspective of often-deserted cities and streets while questioning the notion of identity and solitude. The artist transforms ordinary architectural views into deeply contemplative and metaphorical scenes. This exhibition promises to embark us on a profoundly romantic and intimate journey.
