Biography

Dan Rawlings highlights what is essential and symbolically shows us nature taking back its rights on objects.

Like artist Vhils, Dan Rawlings is part of this generation of virtuoso artists, capable of generating highly poetic works by digging into the material. Dan Rawlings chooses his metal supports with care: an advertising plate (brands of gasoline, car, gas, etc.), a fire extinguisher, a can of gasoline or even on a larger scale, a van or a silo grain... He then makes a very fine cut by hand using a plasma cutter, drawing floral and plant pattersn in the material. He even sometimes goes even further, seeking to provoke a new perception in the visitor, by projecting lights through the object and its hollowed-out areas, thus generating a veritable theater of shadows on the walls and floor that surround the work.
This makes it possible to give life and body to this nature thus regenerated in a poetic way and to question the spectator in his relationship to the work and to the meaning it conveys. An even more significant feeling in his monumental installations, we feel the mark of passing time, and we are lost between past, present and future. Like artist Daniel Arsham who projects the viewer into a deserted world of which only the vestiges of our industry and our technology remain, Dan Rawlings highlights what is essential and symbolically shows us nature taking back its rights on objects.

Dan Rawlings has been represented by Chenus Longhi Gallery since 2019 and collaborates with several international galleries, including the prestigious Saatchi Gallery and Stolen Space in London. In 2021, he held his first institutional solo exhibition at the 20-21 Visual Arts Centre in Scunthorpe, followed by his «2052» exhibition at Château Lamazière in Cormeilles-en-Parisis in 2022. In 2024, Dan Rawlings makes headlines: the newly established Renault Fund for Art and Culture commissions two works from the gallery, transforming a vintage 1973 Renault 5 and the brand-new R5 E-Tech into striking artistic statements.

Chenus Longhi is proud to dedicate a new solo exhibition to Dan Rawlings in 2025, reinforcing its commitment to highlighting his unique and socially engaged artistic universe.
