William LaChance American, b. 1972

Biography
William LaChance is an American artist based in St. Louis, Missouri. With an established international reputation, his work has been widely published and praised in numerous magazines, including Juxtapoz, Architectural Digest, Forbes, Vogue, and Le Mile. He has received several prestigious awards, such as the CLIO and the Scottish Design Award. Balancing studio practice with in situ public and private commissions, LaChance’s work has garnered a global audience.
In 2017, he undertook a significant project in Kinloch Park, Missouri, where he painted basketball courts in the very neighborhood affected by the Ferguson riots in 2014. This initiative, a collaboration with the NGO Project Backboard, aimed to foster community connections through the universal language of sports.
LaChance’s artistic research is deeply enriched by inspirations from fashion, graphic design, art history, and the natural world. His paintings are marked by vibrant colors and dynamic movement, often creating a sense of collision between disparate elements that are skillfully harmonized through his accomplished techniques. His work features a liberated approach to mediums, ranging from painting and printmaking to assemblage and stitching. Occasionally, figurative silhouettes emerge amidst his abstract compositions, further diversifying his artistic language.
William LaChance’s work is represented in numerous public collections, including the Kemper Museum in Kansas City, Lambert St. Louis International Airport, the U.S. Federal Reserve, and the National Broadcasting Company. His works also belong to prominent private collections, including those of Viacom, HBO, Nike, and private collectors such as Sarah Andelman and Milla Jovovich.
The Chenus Longhi Gallery is proud to present his work for the first time in 2025.
