Hélène Planquelle French, b. 1990
Biography
A self-taught painter, Hélène Planquelle owes her intellectual curiosity and thirst for new knowledge to her humanist studies. Passionate about literature and philosophy, from which she draws her inspiration, she has always been interested in modern and contemporary figurative painting, from Salvador Dali to Ernest Pignon-Ernest, via Robert Proch. Her works often show the body in all its complex anatomical beauty, and also in its carnal relationship with the other. Hélène Planquelle's work explores our shadow side and inner struggles in works that play with the notion of reflection and image depth, aiming to question ourselves. Her use of epoxy resin reinforces this frontal relationship with the viewer, while providing a material that appeals to all our senses. Hélène Planquelle has also extensively studied social sciences, psychoanalysis and evolutionary psychology in particular, as well as religious texts and myths, building a body of work with unprecedented thickness and depth. The rich world of references surrounding her art is embodied in the titles of her works, which are textual quotations that the artist chooses for their personal and universal meaning, as well as poetic and evocative dimension, thus opening the door to the dialogue she engages in with the cultural tradition she is rooted in.
Hélène Planquelle lives and works in Vitry-sur-Seine and the Tout va bien groupshow is her very first collaboration with CHENUS LONGHI.
