Guillaume Lemarquier [Mist] French, b. 1972

Guillaume Lemarquier started graffiti in 1988 under the name of Mist while attending the graphic illustration course at the Estienne school. Very talented and active, he started to influence the young generation in the early 90s, also showing his studio work very early on. Indeed, in 1991, his paintings on cut wood were exhibited alongside established artists such as Futura 2000 and Keith Haring at the Graffiti Art institutional exhibition organised by the Minister of Culture Jack Lang at the Musée National des Monuments Français. After training in a sculpture workshop, Mist published his first figurine in 1996. To this day, he is the author of 28 different figurines that are collected with fervour throughout the world. With a rich production in both sculpture and painting, Mist became in the late 2000s a major artist of the French contemporary urban art scene with a work on canvas reflecting all the energy of his graffiti on the wall, while taking an artistic direction tending towards abstraction. The letters of his name are always present in his works, but the lines and contours are mixed with a chromatic dance and a pictorial richness that take him far beyond graffiti, composing a new plastic vocabulary in which he uses spray paint, acrylic and solid markers. Mist is today considered as one of the icons of French street culture.
